Pee Power is an amazing project developed by the University of West of England (UWE). Thanks to microbial fuel cells, it can turn urine into electricity. This solution is a great opportunity for refugee camps.
In close collaboration with Intermon Oxfam, UWE has made a first prototype to be used by students in campus. The microbes feed on urine for its own growth. The system makes use of a part of the microbiological energy and turns it into electricity.
The microbial fuel cells are highly affordable: only £1 per fuel cell. Moreover, they are expected to last forever, making it a trustworthy energy resource. Next, you can watch a video about the project:
